Literature review to my case study!
Robotic surgery is progressing well in the recent years. However, first usage of it as a surgeon-assistant was registered in 1985, when electronic arm called PUMA 560 was used in neurosurgical biopsy (History of Robotic Surgery and FDA Approval - Robotic Oncology, n.d.). Moreover, as mentioned in previous post, the creative and innovative company - Intuitive Surgical was founded in 1995. Their goal was to help hospital with creating less invasive methods of surgery with help of robotic-assisted systems (Intuitive Surgical, 2020)
For a five years they were working on the project, which. changed the medicine. In 2000, Intuitive announced and launched their first surgery robot called da Vinci Surgery System which was approved by FDA for laparoscopic surgery. This was the first time ever when FDA fully authorized all systems of surgical tools and scopic equipment (History of Robotic Surgery and FDA Approval - Robotic Oncology, n.d.). Food and drug administration (FDA) is federal agency whose goal is to look after public healthiness by ensuring security of food and medical products (What We Do, 2020).
This tool was named after one of the most creative human ever existed - Leonardo Da Vinci, who invented a large amount of stuff we are using these days.
